Personal Injury – Plaintiff Matter Details

When managing Personal Injury cases, it’s essential to track various stakeholders such as plaintiffs, defendants, witnesses, insurers, adjusters, and more. Here’s a breakdown of best practices for managing these details effectively in LiraDocs.

Multiple Plaintiffs and/or Defendants

  • Separate Matters for Each Client: If you’re representing multiple plaintiffs or defendants, it’s best to create a separate matter for each one. This allows you to track costs and activities separately per client.
  • Link Related Matters: Use the Related Matters feature to link cases for clients who are part of the same matter but require individual tracking.
  • Adding Additional Parties: Right-click on the plaintiff/defendant field and select Add to add more parties.

Potential Clients

  • Creating a Lead: Use the New Lead button to save important details and correspondence for potential clients, even if they don’t end up being represented.
  • Converting to a Matter: Once a client signs a contingency/fee agreement, you can convert the lead to an active matter.
  • Closing Leads: If a potential client does not retain your firm or if you decide not to take on the case, you can use the Close the Lead feature and specify the reason for closing.
  • Lead Tracking & Reporting: Track and report on leads using the Lead Management feature for better client management.

Lienholders

  • Automatic Lienholder Tracking: Any medical provider or payor added in the Medicals Tab will automatically be listed as a potential lienholder.
  • Liens & Balances: You can view all potential lienholders in the Liens & Balances tab.
    • Check the box indicating that a lien has been asserted, and the system will allow you to enter a Lien Amount to override the Total Claim Amount.

Insurers and Adjusters

  • Insurance Companies: Enter insurance companies by name in the Insurance Company field, without entering specific contact details.
  • Adjusters: Enter the adjuster as a contact person, linking them to their firm in the care of field in the address.
    • Adding Multiple Adjusters: Right-click on the adjuster field and select Add Adjuster to add additional adjusters for a matter.

Witnesses

  • Fact & Expert Witnesses: Use the automation feature to create a Fact and Expert Witness Table within the Matter Details for easy tracking.
  • Printing Witness Information: You can automate the process of printing out a table of witnesses for easy documentation and reporting.
