Set up the Personal Injury Settlement Statement

One of the powerful features of LiraDocs‘ Personal Injury – Plaintiff matter type is the ability to generate a Settlement Statement. To make the most out of this feature, it’s essential to ensure key information is entered under Medicals & Settlement Statement, as well as firm costs (expenses).

Steps to Prepare the Settlement Statement:

1. Access Medicals & Settlement Details:
   • Open your Personal Injury – Plaintiff matter details.
   • Double-click on Medicals & Settlement Details.
2. Navigate to the Settlement Statement Tab:
   • Select the Settlement Statement tab within the Medicals & Settlement Details layout.
3. Enter Your Settlement Information:
   • Enter the settlement amount and attorney’s fees.
   • If there are multiple settlement amounts, right-click and choose Insert Standard Item > Settlement Amount. You can add text to the description to indicate which company is paying which settlement.
4. Customize Line Items:
   • Under each line item, select the link to customize options.
   • Attorney’s costs will be automatically pulled from LiraDocs Expenses, but you can choose to manually enter any additional attorney costs.
   • Medicals will auto-populate based on data entered in Medicals and Liens & Balances.
5. Reorder Line Items:
   • If desired, use the arrows to move line items up or down for better organization.

Edit Standard Items for the Settlement Statement:

• To edit the standard items and how they appear on all Personal Injury – Plaintiff matters, click the Standard Items tab in the top right.
• Use the checkboxes to add or remove options.
• The arrows on the top right allow you to reorder line items.
• Select the blue Click to Select links to customize standard options for attorney’s fees, costs, and medicals.

Generate the Settlement Statement:

1. Find the Template:
   • Once your settlement statement is set up, go to Forms & Templates and locate the Settlement Statement template.
   • The settlement statement will be generated in Microsoft Word, which allows for further customization if needed.
2. Modify the Template:
   • You can right-click and modify the template to include your firm letterhead or to customize client agreement language.
